Company History & Headquarters
Founded in 1978 by Stephen Grant, Grant Engineering began in Birr, County Offaly, Ireland, where its main global headquarters, manufacturing facilities, and R&D innovation centre remain operating today. The company originally established its reputation by developing high-efficiency back boilers and revolutionised the off-grid market in 2002 with the introduction of the Vortex condensing oil boiler range.
Recognising the industry transition toward decarbonisation, Grant entered the renewable sector in 2010 with its first generation of air-to-water heat pumps. To support the British market directly, Grant UK was established in 1996 and operates from its UK headquarters in Devizes, Wiltshire, housing training facilities, technical support, and central distribution.
Key Grant Engineering Product Lines
Whilst Grant engineering continues to support off-gas properties with liquid fuel solutions, its primary growth focus centres on monobloc air-source heat pumps (ASHPs), hybrid systems, and integrated heat delivery packages.
Aerona³ R32 Air Source Heat Pumps
The Aerona³ R32 monobloc range represents Grant’s flagship heat pump platform for wet central heating systems. Built with inverter-driven DC twin-rotary compressors, these units maintain high Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) ratings even under low external ambient conditions.
- Available Outputs: 6kW, 10kW, 13kW, and 17kW single-phase models.
- Refrigerant & Performance: Uses low-GWP R32 refrigerant, with ErP A+++ energy ratings across the range.
- Key Features: Compact footprint, integrated base tray heaters, and Quiet Mark certification on the 13kW and 17kW units.
Aerona 290 Series
The Aerona 290 is Grant’s fifth-generation heat pump line, engineered to meet higher flow temperature requirements while lowering environmental impact.
- Refrigerant: Uses R290 (propane) natural refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 3.
- Application: Suited for both modern new-build standards and retrofit upgrades where existing radiator circuits require higher water temperatures.
- Control: Integrates directly with the Grant Aerona Smart Controller Kit for dynamic weather compensation, remote diagnostics, and energy monitoring.
Legacy, Hybrids & System Integration
Grant provides full-system compatibility across all residential setups:
- Vortex Condensing Boilers: Available in standard, low-NOx, and HVO-biofuel-compatible variants for internal, external, and boiler house setups.
- VortexAir Hybrids: Combines an Aerona³ ASHP with a backup Vortex oil boiler, using smart controls to automatically switch heat sources based on outdoor temperature and efficiency.
- System Components: Grant manufactures dedicated pre-plumbed hot water cylinders, Afinia aluminium radiators, Uflex underfloor heating, and pre-packaged S-Plan installation kits to simplify setup on-site.
Overview for Installers & Specifiers
Grant Engineering combines traditional off-grid heating expertise with modern heat pump technology. By offering complete system packages, from heat sources and smart controls to emitters and hot water storage, Grant provides reliable, MCS-approved solutions supported by strong UK and Irish technical networks.
